Director General's Message
Welcome to the official website of the Changchun China Optical Science and Technology Museum!
Light is the source of all things. Photosynthesis gives rise to life, and the changes and development of many things on Earth rely on the energy brought by light. Human life cannot exist without light. The vast majority of the external information we receive comes through vision—an intricate system composed of the optical and nervous systems. The progress of civilization and the development of science and technology both depend on light and its radiation. Optics is one of the earliest sciences studied by humankind. From ancient Egypt and ancient Greece to the Warring States period in China, people have been exploring those “mysterious” optical phenomena, gradually unveiling the veil of light layer by layer. Euclid, known as the “Father of Geometry,” founded geometric optics, while Mozi, the great scientist of the Warring States period, left behind the “Eight Principles of Optics” in the Mo Jing. Since then, countless optical researchers—whether celebrated by history or known to few—have devoted their lives to the study of optics. They explored the principles of light from simple phenomena, and through continuous practice, gradually built up a complete system of optical knowledge, which laid the foundation for today’s discipline of optics. The Changchun China Optical Science and Technology Museum is precisely such a science and technology venue that records and showcases the phenomena of light, the history of light, the exploration of light, and the future of light.
As the only national-level museum in China
dedicated to optics, the Changchun China Optical Science and Technology Museum
is located in the Jingyue National High-Tech Industrial Development Zone of
Changchun City, Jilin Province, by the beautiful Jingyuetan Lake. Upholding the
theme “The Light of Science and Technology Illuminates the Future,” the museum
takes as its social mission the popularization of optical knowledge, the
presentation of scientific achievements in optics, the promotion of optical
science and technology development, and the advancement of international
cooperation and exchange in optics. It serves to enhance the public’s scientific
literacy, create a strong atmosphere for science education, and strives to
become a base for the public to learn scientific knowledge, master scientific
methods, foster a scientific spirit, and improve scientific competence. Here,
on behalf of the Changchun China Optical Science and Technology Museum, I
extend my warmest welcome to all visitors to the museum and to our official
website. I wish every one of you knowledge and joy through your visit to the
museum!
